Arlen Specter Joins the Democrats

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Woo hoo! It is high time that traitor switched parties! I have been wanting him to switch since I first registered as a Republican in 2004! Praise God! Hallelujah! If I was Irish and knew how I would do a jig! Now if we can just get Zell Miller to come to our side we would be so much the better! For right now we have one less RINO to worry about.

Okay now that I got that excitement out of my system. I am extremely happy to hear that he is joining the Dems because now we can stop counting him as a Republican and friendly to our platform.  Arlen Specter has been a thorn in our side for a very long time.  Many will say well having him as a Republican adds to our numbers and we need those numbers to have control in the House. However, what good is it to have him on ours side if he is always siding with the Democrats when it comes to legislation.  I would rather have less Republicans who are true to the conservative values that make up the core constituency then to have more Republicans who are always siding with the enemy.  It is not the numbers that matter, not entirely anyway, if  you can’t get them to vote with you on the matters that concern Americans the most!

I can’t say whether or not Arlen Specter was ever a true Republican or why he even joined the party in the first place. However, I can say with relative confidence that whatever drew him to the GOP has long since died and it is about time he admitted he is a Democrat.  It much like political “coming out of the closet.”  I am sure he is relieved he doesn’t have to feign to care about us bigoted Republicans anymore. I know when I switched parties it was very much like  a coming out for me.  I could say things that liberals would cringe at.  Things like  abortion is murder and there is no two ways around it.  Like homosexuality is wrong because Nature says it is wrong and will go out of her way to destroy anyone who consistently engages in it.  Things like marriage is not a right, never has been never will be! I was out and I was proud baby! I hope Arlen feels the same and don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya! Good riddance and I don’t know about the rest of  the Republican party but I wish  he would jumped ship sooner, it would’ve saved real Republicans like me a whole bunch of headaches!

Moral of the story: There is a God! And he’s a Republican. LOL. Okay maybe he’s not a member of the GOP but he is definitely a conservative! LOL

  1. Mr. Specter, Happy trails to you until we meet again! Trying to maintain his power in the US Senate as he knew he could not win in PA again.

  2. He most certainly could not! After all you can fool all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time but you can’t fool all of the people all the time. And he was trying to fool us all of the time! Not happening. He certainly won’t be missed by me.

  3. Did you know this isn’t the first time he switched parties? Back in 1965 he switched from Dem to Republican. The man is a self seving tool!

  4. He is definitely a self serving tool! And while I don’t fault him for switching parties, one should align themselves with the party that represents their values, I do fault him for being disingenous about his real political agenda and it wasn’t to advance the Republican party and everything it stands for but to further his own greedy aspirations. I don’t care if he spent 69 years in the Senate, he is a national disgrace.

  5. Wow. Some comment. So, having been voted out of power and watching yourself sink slowly into the muck that you’ve so cheerfully created, you celebrate that the moderates are deserting the “Big Tent Party”?

So let me get this straight. You’re happy that you’ve become, not just the minority party, but the disenfranchised, far-right, fundamentalist-Christian, bug-eyed, batshit-insane powerless minority that America is leaving in the dirt?

I’m just curious, because I’d like to know how you want to be remembered.

  6. You want to know how I want to be remembered, well as someone who isn’t nameless for one! But beyond that I want to be remembered as someone who wasn’t scared to stand their ground. As someone who lived by her convictions. And when she faltered, as I often do, I got back up and kept going! I want to be remembered as a fighter not some wuss!

And yes, I celebrate the moderate leaving. Moderates are worthless. Let’s read what one civil rights leader had to say about moderates.
I must make two honest confessions to you, my Christian and Jewish brothers. First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action”; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a “more convenient season.” Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.

Dr. Martin Luther King penned those words. And they are still true today! It is the moderate that is the stumbling block, not just for the Black man but all men, in the stride towards freedom! King was much more patient with the moderates than I. I find the moderates much more disdainful than I do the radical liberal. I can understand the radical liberal and their intent to see their agenda fulfilled. I cannot understand people who have no set beliefs whatsoever and go with the wind. They are dangerous and I will not abide by a moderate!

As for the rest, yes I am proud to believe in Jesus Christ, if that offends you-good! It means you have enough of a conscience left to know you are not right with God! Yes, I am proud to be a minority, whetther it is Black, conservative, epileptic whatever. I don’t hang my head down in shame because people like you want me to! And no one is leaving me in the dust because I know what I am! I am a child of God. I am his daughter and there is nothing more important. Daughter of God-that’s an eternal title. I already have my victory and it is not in the political world. My victory is that each day I can wake up and be a better person than I was yesterday. My victory is that fact God has worked inside me and changed me. But he has also put a fire in me to help raise up this nation once more and when it happens it won’t be because it was handed to us but because we were willing to sacrifice to get there. What are you willing to sacrifice. Not much. Especially since you can’t even share your name. My name is Dena Leichnitz and I am an American. I am a Mormon and I am a patriot. What are you? Besides scared I mean?

  7. You actually want to bring up Martin Luther King in the same breath that you claim the glories of the GOP? I’m curious: what political party do you think that the good Reverend would be in? Trust me, not the same one that claims David Duke and Strom Thurmond.

Here, Time Magazine looked at the Republican party’s stand on race issues back when Trent Lott was praising the political career of Imperial Wizard Thurman.

Why would it offend me that you believe in Jesus Christ? And why do you think that I want you to “hang your head in shame” because… hang on, I have to reread what you wrote…

OK, I still don’t know what the hell weird ideas you’re trying to project on me. But what kind of straw-man argument are you trying to put up here?

(Oh, by the way, speaking of Jesus, you know that he was a moderate, right? He wasn’t really a big fan of armed rebellion – it was that whole “turn-the-other-cheek” ethos of his – just so you know.)

And why is it that morons like you always immediately assume that people who disagree with you are unpatriotic. I spent 21 years in the military, you ignorant chucklehead. How much sacrificing have you done for your country?

And the name, by the way, is Bill Minnich. Which puts an ironic spin on the “nameless” part, but I’ve been going by that nick for several years now, and don’t see any reason to stop now. Particularly not for somebody like you.

A little test here – I scanned back through a couple of your posts, and notice that you don’t mention the word “torture” a whole lot. In fact, I had to go to Google to find the two mentions of it (once criticizing Obama for not arresting every CIA agent – I guess that’s what you meant – and once talking about Che Guevara).

So, especially with the recent revelations coming out, how do you feel about the actions of our former president now? You seem to think that he’s a pretty spiffy guy. Well, Jesus was nailed to a cross after being scourged by the Romans. (I assume you remember that, right?) So, how do you think that Jesus feels about George Bush?

I’m just curious about the depth of your hypocrisy.

  8. Yes, I want to bring up Martin Luther King because he was actually a Republican when he was alive-not a Democrat. You guys have far more racists in your party then we do. Who stood at the door of the school so the Little Rock Four couldn’t gain entrance-A Democrat! Who said, segregation today, segregation tomorrow and segregation forever-A Democrat! Who opposed freeing the slaves-Democrats! You want racism-the Democratic party is full of it! And if you don’t believe Martin was a Republican-go ask his niece Alveda King, she’ll tell you! Uncle Martin was a Republican!

Next, Jesus was not a moderate! He didn’t love God moderately. And as far as him not being a fan of armed rebellion-so what who is? He did knock some tables over when he felt they were mocking God by selling their wares in the temple. Not exactly a docile action is it? Just because Jesus didn’t throw a punch at anyone does not make him a moderate. Jesus said he is who not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.” Luke 11:23 Doesn’t sound like a moderate position. You are either with Jesus or against him. Jesus was the least moderate person to ever live!

Show me anywhere where I said you were unpatriotic? Now who is projecting. In fact you were the one name calling and acting like a willful child. By declaring my name and the truth of who I am I was only speaking for myself. If you took it to me that you are unpatriotic then you need to examine why someone else declaring their patriotism makes you feel threatened as if yours is being called into question.

You said you spent 21 years in the military and that is indeed a commendable achievement. But is this what your fought for, so your fellow soldiers could be called torturers and a threat to national security by this administration? Did you fight so you could pay for your own war injuries which Obama originally wanted to do? Did you fight so terrorists would be let out of Gitmo within a year? Is this what you gave 21 years of your life for? As far as Bush goes, I have much more respect for him than I do Obama. Bush didn’t bow down to dictators. He didn’t do everything right but he kept us safe for 8 years and Obama is so busy trying to be everyone’s friend that he is going to get us killed. How do I think Jesus views Bush-just fine. Because he knows in his heart Bush loves him. Jesus also knows in Obama’s heart, he only loves himself. And Jesus doesn’t like pride.

You said I didn’t mention torture a lot in my previous poss-and? I don’t mention throwing people out of windows or running someone over in a Hummer either, what is your point? You seem to be very offended that I don’t fall in line and believe everything the massa (Democrats and liberal media) tell me to believe. Let me settle this for you! I am a conservative because liberalism DOES NOT work. I have done it, I have lived it and a the end of it all it got me heartbreak and tears. So what happened when I decided to go a more conservative route, my life improved, my outlook improved. But I guess that is hypocrisy to you.

Okay I wasted enough time with listening to your liberal regurgitation and I got better things to do like cleaning the toilet, at least there is less crap in it then there is in your pathetic post.

  9. Aw, look out. You’re going to hurt my feelings if you aren’t careful.

Here’s a little history lesson for you: through the early Sixties, the southern wing of the Democratic party was controlled by a group of racists who also referred to themselves as “Dixiecrats.” They split of from the United States Democratic Party, and were more formally known as the “States’ Rights Democratic Party.” (I’m sure you’ve heard the term “state’s rights” before – it’s long been code for “racism.”)

Regardless of that, however, political groups evolve… oh, wait, I’ll bet you don’t support the idea of “evolution,” do you? Let’s put it this way: political groups change over time. First, the short version from wikipedia:

Until the period following the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Democratic Party was primarily a coalition of two parties divided by region. Southern Democrats were typically given high conservative ratings by the American Conservative Union while northern Democrats were typically given very low ratings. Southern Democrats were a core bloc of the bipartisan conservative coalition that lasted through the Reagan-era.

However, since I fully expect you to pooh-pooh that as liberal propaganda, here’s the conservapedia version.

The New Deal Coalition began to fracture as union and religious leaders demanded support for civil rights, upsetting the party’s traditional base of conservative Southern Democrats. After Harry Truman’s platform showed support for civil rights and anti-segregation policies during the 1948 Democratic National Convention, many Southern Democratic delegates decided to split from the Party and formed the “Dixiecrats,” led by South Carolina governor Strom Thurmond (who, as a Senator, would later join the Republican Party). Over the next few years, many conservative Democrats in the “Solid South” drifted away from the party. By 1940 most northern Blacks had shifted to the Democratic Party due to its New Deal relief programs and support for civil rights.

Interestingly enough, though, neither source identifies the Reverend King as a Republican (although conservapedia does say “Since his assassination in 1968, he has been the single most important exemplar of liberalism in recent U.S. history”).

In fact, if you look into it, you’ll find that it was Martin Luther King SENIOR who was a registered Republican. The story you’ve fallen for is a fiction claimed by a few desperate Republicans in Florida and South Carolilna. It’s disputed by anyone who knew him, and by his own words in The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr. He called the Republican national convention that nominated Goldwater a “frenzied wedding … of the KKK and the radical right… The Republican Party geared its appeal and program to racism, reaction, and extremism.”

You are correct in one thing. Jesus wasn’t a moderate. Not an argument I wanted to derail things with, but if you read your Bible, you’ll find that Jesus was a liberal.

“Liberalism DOES NOT work.” So you’re saying that the last eight years of unbridled conservatism DID work? You’re aware that we’re in a recession, right? One that started well before Obama was elected, in case you missed it.

And incidentally, “Show me anywhere where I said you were unpatriotic?” It’s rather openly implied in “My name is Dena Leichnitz and I am an American. I am a Mormon and I am a patriot. What are you? Besides scared I mean?” If that wasn’t your intention, that’s fine. But those are your words.

(“Willful child”? Really? Are you serious? Sorry, I’m just an annoying adult, with apparently a stronger grasp of history and current events than you have.)

  10. Hey Lady,

Just stopping by to show your blog some love. How are you? What have you been up too. Keep up the fight.

  11. I actually gave the Dems a little more time to turn the knife… I thought it would take at least a month. Of course, I never really thought of Specter as a Republican… oh well, one RINO down, quite a few more to go.

Speaking of RINOs – when is Colin Powell going to defect from the Republican party? It seems that every time he shows up in the media nowadays, it’s solely to bask Republicans! (I thought he was retired!)
