I’m Going to Disneyland!

Announcer: Dena, you are about to turn 39 and it is shaping up to be your crappiest birthday yet, what are you going to do?

Dena: I am going to go to Disneyland-and for free!

As I was sitting in my living room, bemoaning my upcoming birthday which puts me one year closer to middle age, hearing aids and wearing Depends, Mickey Mouse and his merry band of mirth makers came to the rescue! On the television flashed a commercial-get into Disneyland for free on your birthday starting January 1st!

Not just Disneyland but Disney World as well. Obviously since you can’t do Florida and California in the same day unless you are Superman, you chose which park you would attend, register online and then show proof of your age at the window on the day! All of a sudden I was happy about my birthday!

I wrote an essay on here entitled, “Love, Enchantment and Fortune Cookies.” in which I told the readers about my wonderful fortune cookie which promised me an enchanting evening on the next full moon which was January 11th, the day before my birthday. Of course, my head immediately went to romance but darn if that fortune cookie wasn’t right after all! What more enchanting place is there but Disneyland!? For one day I get to be an overgrown kid with my little kid and explore the happiest place on Earth! Yeah, I would call that enchanting definitely!

Ah, such is the wonder of life, just when you think your life is dismal and bleak, God comes along and says, “How would you like to go to Disneyland?” And all the joy that was once your childhood is alive for just a day. Thank you Disneyland! Thank you for giving me a wonderful start to my year! I will always remember this soon to be enchanting day with my beloved son.
