A professor, John Matteson, at Los Angeles City College (of which I am currently a student and can attest to some of this type of this behavior) called a Christian student a fascist b****. What did this student do to be vilified so badly? Jonathan Lopez, wrote a report on God! Here is an excerpt from World News Daily: “During the November, 24, 2008 class, Mr. Lopez delivered an informative speech on God and the ways in which Mr. Lopez has seen God act both in his life and in the lives of others through miracles. In the middle of the speech, he addressed the issues of God and morality; thus, he referred to the dictionary definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman and also read a passage from the Bible discussing marriage,” the ADF explained.” (Bob Unruh. World News Daily. “Prof. Calls Christian Student ‘Fascist B—-’ ” February 13, 2009.)
According to the same article, this professor a few weeks earlier said anyone who voted yes for Proposition 8 was a fascist b—-. When Jonathan started talking about God and marriage the professor interrupted him, called him a “fascist b****” and then dismissed the class. Such behavior is appalling and unworthy of anyone claiming to be an educator. Jonathan is suing the school with the help of the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF). The ADF though small in comparison then say the ACLU or as I like to call them the Anti-Christian, Lucifer’s Union, has definitely has achieved quite a bit of success in bringing these type of cases to positive resolutions.
Personally, I hope this professor is fired and barred from teaching anyone ever again. We don’t need knuckleheads like him imparting anything to anyone…..EVER!!!! Not only was Jonathan called such a vulgar term he was threatened with expulsion by the professor when he was seen talking to the dean of academics. According to World News Daily, “David French, a senior counsel with the ADF, however, was critical of the school’s actions.”
“Public institutions of higher learning cannot selectively censor Christian speech,” he said. “This student was speaking well within the confines of his professor’s assignment when he was censored and ultimately threatened with expulsion.”
The threat reportedly came when Matteson saw Lopez talking to the college’s dean of academic affairs and then said , “he would make sure he’d be expelled from school.”
“Professor Matteson clearly violated Mr. Lopez’s free speech rights by engaging in viewpoint discrimination and retaliation because he disagreed with the student’s religious beliefs,” said French. “When students are given open-ended assignments in a public speaking class, the First Amendment protects their ability to express their views. Moreover, the district has a speech code that has created a culture of censorship on campus. America’s public universities and colleges are supposed to be a ‘marketplace of ideas,’ not a hotbed of intolerance.”
The simple act of writing “Ask God what your grade is.” should be enough to get him suspended until an investigation can be undertaken and a decision regarding his future at the school can be reached. Of course the academic dean, Allison Jones, has not been exactly an advocate of Jonathan Lopez’s. She told World News Daily that two other students objected to his report as well. But they weren’t the ones grading him were they!? They didn’t have to be impartial-the professor does! And they have every right to object, but Jonathan has every right to have his point heard as well. We don’t learn anything from only having people who agree with us being able to share their ideas. We learn more from the dissenters! So unless he was advocating beating gays with baseball bats, it is irrelevant whether two students found his message “offensive” or not!
Allison Jones said she was starting a “progressive discipline” procedure, which in liberalese means we are not going to do squat about it! God bless Jonathan and I hope he takes LACC to the cleaners!
